Overview

The General Maintenance Summer Intern assists the Facilities team with the upkeep, repair, and maintenance of campus buildings and grounds. This position provides hands-on experience in building maintenance while working alongside experienced maintenance staff. The intern will learn basic maintenance practices, safe work procedures, and customer service skills in a university environment. This is a temporary position. 

 

Responsibilities

  • Assist maintenance staff with routine building maintenance and repair projects.
  • Perform basic preventative maintenance tasks under supervision.
  • Help with painting, light carpentry, minor repairs, and general upkeep of campus facilities.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, and materials as needed.
  • Support routine inspections and report maintenance or safety concerns to supervisors.
  • Maintain clean and organized work areas, tools, and equipment.
  • Follow all University safety policies and procedures while performing assigned duties.
  • Provide courteous and professional service to faculty, staff, students, and visitors.
  • Work collaboratively with members of the Facilities team.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:
Minimal Qualifications: 
High School diploma or equivalent.

Essential Skills

  • Willingness to learn and take direction.
  • Strong work ethic and dependable attendance.
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
  • Good communication and customer service skills.
  • Basic problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to safely use hand tools after receiving training.
  • Valid driver's license.
