Install, inspect, maintain, and repair life safety systems, including fire alarm systems and emergency lighting, to ensure they are in proper working order to protect buildings and building occupants and comply with safety codes and regulations.
• Install, program, configure, maintain, troubleshoot, perform diagnostics, and repair fire alarm systems according to specifications and blueprints.
• Install and wire emergency lighting systems, exit signs, and other relevant safety equipment according to specifications and blueprints.
• Perform basic programming for electronic components of fire alarm systems.
• Ensure systems comply with applicable life safety and building standards and codes, including NFPA, NEC, and OSHA.
• Assist in inspecting and testing fire and life safety systems, including fire alarm systems, fire suppression systems, and emergency lighting units.
• Perform routine maintenance and troubleshoot various issues with life safety systems as they arise, and provide problem resolution for fire and life safety equipment, including but not limited to, fire alarm systems, control panels, emergency lighting units, and exit signs.
• Prioritize daily work orders and repairs.
• Estimate materials, labor, and equipment costs.
• Maintain accurate records of inspections, maintenance, and repairs.
• Work with other technicians, supervisors, and clients to ensure tasks and projects are completed efficiently and effectively.
• Respond to after-hours calls or emergency calls outside of normal scheduled or business hours.
• Conduct routine building inspections when time permits, for compliance with fire and life safety codes and regulations.
• Identify best practices and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce fire and life safety hazards and improve safety on campus.
• Actively seek out and report any safety issues or concerns.
• Operate and work safely at all times.

Education:
Minimal Qualifications:
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• NICET 1 fire alarm systems certification.
• Knowledge of electrical codes and fire alarm system standards such as NFPA 72, NEC, and UL 864.
Preferred Qualifications:
• NICET 2 fire alarm systems certification.
• Journeyman card in electrical.
• OSHA 10-hour certification.
• Familiarity with working with Geographic Information System (GIS) mapping.
• Familiarity with working with a work order management system.
• Comfortable with using a cellphone and/or tablet.
Experience:
Minimal Experience:
• 4 years of journeyman equivalent experience as an electrician or related trade.
• 2-4 years of experience in fire alarm or fire detection systems.
Preferred Experience:
• 5 years of journeyman equivalent experience as an electrician or related trade.
• 3-5 years of experience in fire alarm or fire detection systems.
• Strong understanding of electrical systems, lighting technology, and fire safety systems.
• Experience in installing, maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing fire and life safety equipment, including fire alarm systems and emergency lighting units
• Familiarity with fire alarm system manufacturers, such as Simplex and Notifier.
• Knowledge of safety hazards and necessary safety precautions sufficient to be able to establish a safe work environment for self and others.
• Knowledge and understanding of safety regulations and procedures related to electrical work and fire safety.
• Excellent problem-solving and communication skills
• Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics, and technical manuals
• Ability to diagnose and resolve technical issues.
