Overview

This position is essential for the EHS Department to maintain compliance with fire and life safety code requirements. This position is responsible for inspecting over 2,000 pieces of life safety equipment (fire extinguishers, emergency eyewash stations and showers, emergency lighting units, exit signs, etc.) every month and generating work orders for follow-ups on any inspection failures identified during the process. This position also reports any safety issues or concerns observed throughout their travels while conducting their inspections to EHS.

 

Responsibilities

  • Complete fire and life safety equipment inspections in residential and academic spaces on a routine basis.
    • Monthly and annual fire extinguisher inspections
    • Monthly emergency light inspections
    • Monthly exit light inspections
    • Monthly standalone carbon monoxide alarm inspections
    • Monthly emergency eyewash and safety shower inspections
    • Annual fire door inspections
  • Conduct routine building inspections when time permits, for compliance with fire and life safety codes and regulations.
  • Identify best practices and participate in continuous improvement initiatives to reduce fire and life safety hazards and improve safety on campus.
  • Actively seek out and report any safety issues or concerns.
  • Operate and work safely at all times.
  • Live out the Clarkson University values in all daily activities.
  • Perform other related duties incidental to the work described herein.
