The Manager of Libraries provides visionary leadership and strategic direction for the University Libraries, ensuring they align with the institution's mission and meet the evolving information and research needs of students, faculty, and staff. Collaborating closely with the Vice President for Information Technology, the Manager champions innovative services, technologies, and collections that advance the University's academic and research goals, fostering a vibrant intellectual environment.
- Strategic Planning & Vision: Develop and implement a dynamic strategic vision for the Libraries that complements the University's mission and goals, addressing current trends in scholarly communication, research, and library services while anticipating future needs.
- Leadership & Management: Provide effective leadership and management for library staff, creating a culture of innovation, collaboration, and professional growth. Oversee library operations, budget, and resource allocation.
- Collections & Access: Lead the development and management of diverse and inclusive library collections that support the full spectrum of teaching, learning, and research across all disciplines. Ensure seamless access to information resources and services, both physical and digital, through strategic acquisition, effective organization, and user-friendly discovery tools.
- Research & Scholarly Communication: Promote and empower research and scholarly communication at the University by actively supporting faculty and student research endeavors, providing guidance on scholarly publishing and copyright matters, and managing institutional repositories.
- Information Literacy & Instruction: Develop and implement information literacy programs that equip students with the essential skills to effectively find, evaluate, and use information in their academic pursuits and throughout their lives.
- Outreach & Collaboration: Build and nurture strong relationships with faculty, students, staff, and external partners to elevate the library's role in achieving the University's objectives. Engage with the broader library community and actively participate in consortial initiatives.
- Technology & Innovation: Embrace emerging technologies and innovative approaches to enhance library services and resources. Collaborate with the Information Technology department to lead the adoption and integration of new tools and systems that improve user experience and access to information.
- Assessment & Evaluation: Develop and implement comprehensive assessment and evaluation plans to measure the library's impact and effectiveness, utilizing data to inform decision-making and continuous improvement efforts.
- Advocacy & Fundraising: Advocate for the library's needs and resources both within the University and externally. Explore external funding opportunities to support and expand library programs and initiatives.
• Master's degree in Library and Information Science or a related field from an ALA-accredited program
• Demonstrated leadership and management experience in an academic library setting
• Proven track record of strategic planning, visioning, and innovation in library services
• Strong understanding of current trends and best practices in library management, technology, and scholarly communication
• Excellent communication, collaboration, and interpersonal skills
• Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion in library services and collections
• Demonstrated ability to advocate for library resources and build relationships with diverse stakeholders
• Ability to work effectively with Information Technology leadership and staff
Preferred Qualifications:
• Experience with grant writing and fundraising
• Active participation in professional library organizations and consortia
• Knowledge of current issues in higher education and their impact on libraries
